Showy scarlet long tubular blooms beginning in May are full of nectar for humming birds and are followed by bright red attractive berries in the fall. The berries attract many types of song and game birds. This low maintenance twisting vine grows well on an arbor or as a ground cover. Larval host for Spring Azure butterfly and Snowberry clearwing moth aka hummingbird moth which is an interesting moth to see. Native replacement for invasive Japanese honeysuckle and walnut tolerant.
