This nectar filled shrub works well as a hedge screen or in rain gardens tolerating occasional flooding. It is a legume which can aid in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen improving native plant communities. It is also a host for several butterflies such as California and Southern dogfaces, Silver-spotted Skipper, Gray hairstreak, and Hoary edge skipper. Great replacement for the non-native butterfly bush.
