Showy purple flowers with yellow centers are one of the longest lasting asters of the season, often from late summer to the first frost. The dense mounding habit is attractive fragrant and a good replacement for mums. It is a host plant of 11 species of beneficial moths and butterflies along with several specialized bees. No question as to why it was selected as the 2000 North Carolina Wildflower of the year and a Plant of Merit by the Missouri Botanical Garden. Aromatic Aster is a tough little plant that is tolerant of drought, erosion and shallow rocky soil, poor soils, deer and rabbits. Use to naturalize, along borders, walkways, butterfly and songbird gardens, or in containers.
